CCM CONFERENCE 2016

On 22-24 April 2016, over 270 participants from University of Queensland (UQ), Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and Griffith University (GU) attended a 3-day 2-night conference organised by Campus Christian Movement (CCM). The theme for the conference this year is “Crossover: Forward in Faith” which aims to impart, challenge and inspire participants to win souls, make disciples and build churches. 

Various inspiring sessions were conducted by Ps Joshua and the senior leadership team, that challenged participants that a crossover is possible in our personal lives and in our ministry. Through that, participants were challenged to have a bigger heart for His people and His church. Forums were conducted throughout the conference that offered insight and practical tips for different challenges in life. Aside from the sessions and workshops, outdoor activities were organised on Friday night and Saturday afternoon to promote effective team building skills and also heaps of fun!



Sunday was a memorable and joyous occasion where participants gathered around the pool to witness and celebrate brothers and sisters taking a step of faith to commit their lives to Jesus by being water baptised. The conference ended with open testimonies, where participants flooded to the front row of the hall, eager to share what God was doing in their lives throughout this conference. It was an amazing time as we witnessed God’s grace at work within lives of the participants.



Overall, it was an amazing 3 days and 2-nights filled with tears and joy as challenges were overcome, chains were broken, and the commitment to win souls, make disciples and build churches was restored and renewed. Again, we stand in awe of what God has done and is doing in the lives of His children.

HOPE CANBERRA OUTDOOR WORSHIP CONCERT

Hope Church Canberra’s university ministry, Hope on Campus, recently held an outdoor worship concert in the Australian National University campus. The theme of the concert was “Heaven Invades”. The objective was to proclaim the name of Jesus in the campus and provide an opportunity to fellow believers in the university a corporate time of worshipping God. 

The concert was truly a faith project in many ways. We had to go through the approval process of organising the event; it was in the middle of winter with wet weather as well as budget constraints. God’s hand and favour was upon the project all the way, and the rain literally stopped on the concert day after days of wet weather!

The concert also gained attention from the local Christian community. Patrick was invited to the local Christian radio station, Canberra’s 1 WAY FM, to talk about and promote the event. Various Christian groups in the campus also turned up to show support and worshipped together. On concert day, even though it was on a weekday afternoon, the church members turned up in full force to prepare and participate in the running of the event. It was really encouraging to see members from the family group not only coming to support, but also helped out in ushering and ministered to people attending the concert.

The concert ran for 2 hours filled with praise and worship songs. It was such a wonderful experience lifting the name of Jesus out in the open in the middle of campus. There was also an altar call session for people to respond to God.

All in all, it was a wonderful event and we are planning for the next concert!

HOPE OCEANIA SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP (HOSOL)

Hope Ministries Australia initiated its first Hope Oceania School of Leadership (HOSOL). The School ran over two consecutive weeks from 23rd November to 4th December, 2015 under the teaching of experienced church leaders and pastors. The key teachers were Ps Wilson, Ps Lai Ling, Ps Brendan, Ps Joshua, Ps Torch, Ps Lance and other senior leaders. 

Great care and preparation was undertaken throughout the training to ensure students were equipped and empowered with key leadership aspects. Ultimately, this is in hope of the students becoming even more effective leaders in their respective churches. The course included a large variety of reasonably intense subjects that also required necessary devotional time to study deeper into lessons whether in or out of the school.

These courses included; Inspirational Leadership, Foundational Bible Interpretation and Study, Church Growth, Art of Public Speaking and Sermon Delivery, Philosophy of Ministry, and Team Dynamics. The course also included the Hope Leadership Conference and Hope Church Conference. Veteran Christian leaders, Ps Andrew Evans and Ps Gordon Moore were the keynote speakers and they shared their insights and experiences. The students were deeply inspired and challenged.

Students were stretched physically, mentally, and spiritually but nevertheless joyful memories flowed endlessly on a daily basis. Throughout the course, students enjoyed fellowship-filled meals with the leaders - many memories and connections were made. At the same time, God’s presence filled the school with blessed testimonies and new beginnings for a new season for each and every person.

HOPE LEADERS CONFERENCE (4TH-6TH JULY, 2016)

Welcome to our 2nd HLC – our Hope Leaders Conference. It is coming again in July, and I’m really excited, because we are going to have 2 great speakers amongst many other speakers.

One of our key speakers is Mark Edwards. Pastor Mark Edwards is the pastor of the largest church (Cityhope Church) in Ipswich, which is the city beside Brisbane. This is a mega church and an influential church in Ipswich. Pastor Mark is a wonderful man of God and a great communicator. He has extensive experience with the marketplace. So I really want to welcome us to come for this. Because it is going to be really good. He is going to share something from his heart to all leaders and also to the pastors.

Secondly, we also have Pastor Rick Benson. Pastor Rick Benson is a very experienced pastor. He led Kenmore Baptist Church and grew it into a mega church. Kenmore Baptist Church is today the largest Baptist church in Brisbane. Again he comes with extensive experience in growing the church in pastoral ministry and counselling, and many other areas.

 I’m really excited that we have these 2 wonderful speakers with us. And of course, we have other speakers from our leaders in Oceania. So it is going to be really exciting. I invite you to come and participate in this and fellowship together with leaders all over Australia and New Zealand. I’m looking forward to seeing you there. God bless you!

HOPE BRISBANE KIDS SUMMER CLUB

The kids ministry took a step of faith and organized the first Kids Summer Club in Jan 2016. The summer club happened over 2 days, during the school holidays in January. The theme for the Summer Club was “SOAR”. We want children to have faith to soar towards the call that God has for them. There was a total of 27 children and 15 volunteers over the 2 days. 



In the 2 days, we did lots of fun games and reflections, learnt about how Moses responded to the call of God, and how God delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. We started off both days with a time of praise and worship, and the children had a great time praising, and soaking in God’s presence. The amazing thing is that the worship team was led by youth and children. It was their first time leading together, and everyone had a great time.

The whole heart and purpose in having this summer club is really hoping to see children grow in their relationship with God and experience Him. It is not just about fun and learning, but about creating memorable encounters with God, for the children. In the whole of the summer club, the most fulfilling thing was to see children respond to God. That was the highlight for all.



We saw at least 5 children making the decision to receive Christ into their hearts, and many other children responding to ask God to help them to start right in this new year. It was so evident that these kids just desire to want more of God.

This is the start, and there will be more. We pray that more will partner with the children’s ministry to impart the values of God to our children. They are our next generation of leaders, so join with us in prayers for the children.

HOPE BRISBANE: CHRISTMAS 4 KIDS 2015

Running from 10am through to 1pm on Saturday, 5 December 2015, Hands of Hope pulled off its thirteenth year of Christmas 4 Kids. It was held at Unidus Communtiy Centre, Willawong, which provided a great outdoor space for young children and families. 



Christmas 4 Kids first began in 2003 as an annual Christmas community event of Hands of Hope with the aim of bringing Christmas cheer to the southwestern community of Brisbane. This year almost 300 children and 200 adults attended the event.

It was a day full of fun and games with over 25 activities for the children such as jumping castle, face painting, animal farm, laser tag, and many carnival games. A team of dancers in animal onesies made a guest appearance halfway through the event, which children, especially the younger ones, thoroughly enjoyed.



Everyone was treated to a free sausage sizzle over lunch, as well as snow cones and fairy floss. The wide array of desserts and sweet treats to top off the feed were kindly donated by volunteers. Agencies, which service the local areas around Willawong, namely Queensland Police Services, Inala Youth Service and Anglicare were present at the event. They came equipped with information on services they provide, information sheets and fun activities to engage the children.



Cr Angela Owen-Taylor, Councillor for Parkinson Ward and Cr Milton Dick, Councillor for Richlands Ward also joined us. Every child went home that day with a Christmas present each that was given out by Hands of Hope. Families were also treated to a free photo booth on site where they could bring home photos as memories of the day.




We greatly appreciate the 217 volunteers that helped both on the day and with the preparations in making this event possible!

We also thank and acknowledge the funding we received for this event from the Brisbane City Council Festival Funding Program and the Lord Mayor Suburban Initiative Fund.

HOPE QUEANBEYAN CHRISTMAS PARTY

Jesus is the reason for the season! Hope Christian Church Queanbeyan opened the 2015 Christmas party with a spirit filled praise and worship and a preaching that reminded us of the birth of Jesus that marks the birth of the grace of eternal salvation. 



The program was followed by the show-casing of never-been-seen-before gifts of acting, singing and dancing by our multi-talented life groups to bring the message of Christ across the congregation. Truly God has blessed everyone with skills and talents, and we are like pieces of puzzles put all together to make His creation shine.

The presentations were then finished with of course one of the most anticipated part of the party: dinning and fellowship time. Once again, God has brought in many souls to the church to celebrate and rejoice with us as we remember God’s most amazing gift to humanity: JESUS!



Indeed, the Christmas party was not just a time to get-together, but it was a time to share the good news of Jesus to our brothers and sisters and to show them love and compassion as Jesus has commanded us. We stand on His promise in Isaiah 55:11 “..so is my word that goes out of my mouth, it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it”



We thank God for the unity and joy He has faithfully blessed this church with.
