UNIDUS COMMUNITY CENTRE SERVICE
UNIDUS COMBINED SERVICE 26 August 2012 The Sunday morning air was crisp and the atmosphere was brimming with excitement, with the smell of fresh coffee permeating from the new bookstore and café as Hope Church Brisbane churchgoers waited eagerly outside for the combined service to begin. For many of us there, this was our first service in the main auditorium at Unidus, and an experience long waited for.
Before the service began, we had a powerful session of prayer, praising and exalting our God who had provided for, and walked with us, every step of the way in building Unidus – from planting the very first seedlings in Pastors Wilson and Lai Ling’s dreams to a now-completed community centre in Willawong. It was such a privilege to have Hope Church Brisbane come together, united across its different services to engage in corporate prayer before the actual service.
The service began with a spectacular display of our church’s many talents in worship and the arts. There were performances by our orchestra, choir and dance ministry, who all put together well-choreographed and well-rehearsed expressions of not only who our God is, but also what our church stood for – multiculturalism, unity and a heart for God. We also heard inspiring testimonies from two members of the church about what the opening of Unidus meant for them. Their testimonies opened our eyes to the many opportunities in which God will move and use us in the near future within the community.
Following the theme of “new beginnings” and the much-felt anticipation for a new season for our church, Pastor Wilson preached a message focusing on the all-important pursuit of building the kingdom of God. The sermon refreshed our hearts with the urgent need to grow and strengthen the church. He preached of the importance of the church itself, and our part to play in making it the place where God is found. It was a message of not only hope and expectation for the future, but of thanksgiving for what the Lord has provided in the past.
Altogether, the combined service was wholly inspiring in preparing our hearts for what is to come and was satisfying for many, in seeing what our praiseworthy God has done in Unidus for His church in order so that we may bless and save others.
